Leah Dizon – Communication!!! Review

August 23, 2008

comments are welcomed(: some of the songs I already reviewed because they were singles before, so I just copy + paste.

Leah’s 2nd Album Communication!!!

1. Step Into My World (): The short sweet intro was very cute, and sounded like a little kids toy. Remind me of one of Deestylistic’s (Deestylistic is another artist) intros. The beat is fun, but Leah’s voice sound karaoke-ish. The background vocals sound more enjoyable. This cute style didn’t really suit her.

2. Love Paradox (1/2): This song was pretty good. Some parts it seemed she was struggled to hit a certain note. Love paradox is sort of a hard song for EVERYONE to relate to, i think. I liked The english parts near the end “Sometimes love just ain’t enough…”. Overall it was alright!

3. LOVE SWEET CANDY(1/2): Many people like this song over Vanilla, but for me it’s the exact opposite! Leah was struggling with the vocals, and the beat doesn’t seem to change much. The only thing I enjoyed was the lines, “Love sweet candy the sweetest icecream, Oh OH!” I feel this song was put together in a couple of days, and I didn’t like the instrumental near the end.

4. Without a good-bye(): A really slowed down song, with a mellow alternative rock vibe. Her vocals were horrible in this, the vocals help disguise her actual voice during the chorus. I really liked the melody, and what she tried to aim for but she needs to work on her vocals!! It was a mess.

5. Vanilla (★★): I thought this track was really good! The melodies were very fun and cute. Many fans don’t like it because it’s not her usual style, but I love it! It’s a fun love song and the english words really go well, and i love the rhymes! I also enjoy Leah’s ‘deeper’ vocals. The MV was very fun, and great style and fashion!

6. Nothin’ To Lose( 1/2): The beat is really hot! Sounds very American flavored. This song was entirely in English. The vocals were just average. Near the end at around 2:20 she starts saying “Oh Oh, The stakes are high, he’s one of a kind”, was my favorite part of the whole song. I REALLY love when she does that kind of style of singing where she is whispering. I wish she would of done more of that. Decent. It remind me of her other songs ‘Are You Feelin’for Me?’ because it had the same style near the end as well, and completely in English.

7. Lost at Sea(★): Another alternative attempt. The rock beats were really good, but Leah’s vocals were really bad during the chorus. This song would of been better if she waited until her vocals improved. This song has potential, but it still fails.

8. Communication(1/2): I like these R&B styles, very dancable. Vocally the bridge was blah and so was the chorus. Again just like Nothin’ To Lose near the end she starts saying “Oh oh, Communication” I like that. A LOT of vocal struggles!!

9. Not Too Bad( 1/2): The beat sounds very American influenced. A sweet fun clapping R&B song that sounds like it could make it on the top 10 of TRL. The best sounding (vocals + beat) song from the entire album, pleasant from beginning to end. I hope she performs this song!!

10. BxKxRxxx(1/2): The best rock attempt from the album. Despite her mediocre voice, but I like how she sang the chorus really fast. Makes you wanna jump around. Again I liked around 2:20 when she starts singing “HEY! — HEY!” But overall, it sounded very amateur. Overall, I have to say Leah did a pretty good try for an alternative approach.

11. Under The Same Sky (★): LOVE it!! I love the entrance and how it sounds as if I am on a beach. Leah talks softly and and enters into an amazing chorus! Really sweet to the ears, and the music video really complimented this song!

12. Thank You(): This song very typical beat of something I hear off of Itunes. Another R&B cute song, that you can sing-a-long to. However, the vocals weren’t as good as Nothin’ to Lose.

OVERALL: 2 1/2 to 3 Stars

I wouldn’t recommend buying this album. I DO recommend just buying the singles (Vanilla, Love Paradox), because those were the best songs from the album.

‘Communication!!!’ was a complete mess. I think Leah should of stayed away from trying to go for an alternative rock styles because her vocals were horrible. She should of waited for her vocals to develop then she could of produced something great. Her vocals can’t support that kind of style, so I think she should of just stuck with her usual simple R&B styles. The album seemed completely rushed.

Big Bang: Stand Up Review

August 15, 2008

Stand Up Review! I love Big Bang but this is my honest opinion.

1. INTRO (Stand Up)(★): Great intro!! Exactly what you expect from Big Bang! I love the intro, with the growling dogs (?). Very catchy, makes me wanna sing “B-I-G B-A-N-G-EEEEE”. It left me sort of anticipating an entire album filled with Rap and Hip-Hop.

2. 하루 하루/Day By Day(★): Starts off slow with a piano playing with an eerie break up feel, and g-dragon whispering some lyrics. I like the chords. Then it switches to an up-beat tempo. A definitely catchy lyrics, “Haru, Haru”. But the bridge or the chorus seemed like a mediocre k-pop song trying to make a buck. This seemed a little TOO typical. First G-dragon raps, then top, a little daesung and taeyang solo at the end, a let-down.

3. 천국/Heaven(★ 1/2): A violin intro, with another up-tempo change, which I really like. The beat didn’t really change much throughout the song, blah. Nothing was really surprising, and addictive.

4. 착한 사람/Nice Person( 1/2): A completely different type of intro, a bit Spanish flavored. The beat remained the same again, and nothing was memorable. TOP reaching the low notes at the end wasn’t pleasant. I give props to TOP for his first attempt at writing a song but it was plain.

5. Lady(★ 1/2): A funky summer song. Again the same beat in repeat, which got boring. The chorus was more catchy, “My Lady” but nothing great about this song. Felt like they got the cheapest summer melody they could get. Despite that, the raps by g-dragon and TOP were really good.

6. OH MY FRIEND( 1/2): Woooah!! Big Bang’s first attempt at a rock song. I think this song is pretty good for a bunch of Rappers. It was good that they still added a little rapping, so it wasn’t completely out of their range. The chorus had a completely different style of singing, but it blended with the song. I like that they tried to expand their genre, and perform with No Brain, I guess they opened mainstream kpop lovers to the world of rock, and rockers to the world of kpop.

OVERALL: 2 1/2 – 3 stars

I wouldn’t recommend buying this album. If you like the typical big bang(hip hop, and rapping, etc.), the only reason you would buy the album would be for the short intro, which is a waste.

BUT IF you are a dedicated Big Bang V.I.P (Like me) I would say go and buy it! Otherwise if you are new to Big Bang I would recommend buying their other albums first before diving into this…..

The INTRO was wonderful and perfect, but listening to the entire album was a let down. I didn’t fall in love with any of the other songs as I did with their previous albums. I like that they attempted their first rock song. After their AMAZING successful of Lies & Last Farewell the expectations were high, but nothing in this album was near being a big hit. A reason could be that they create albums in a matter of a few months (Other artists can take up to a year or more), and sometimes they can’t always create a fabulous album if they rush it. Very poor album…

Jonas Brothers: A Little Bit Longer Review

August 14, 2008

A Little Bit Longer Review~!! Also this might be a little favored towards the Jonas Brothers…

1. BB Good(★★ 1/2): Very surprising. Great opening for their album. The chorus maybe a little cheesy, but it’s addictive! A rock and roll feel, with strong guitar instrumentals. I didn’t like the piano and the instrumental at the end, didn’t really blend well. But I love the vocals, “I wanna kiss you!”, popping out of nowhere can make any fangirl melt. The “yelling” style of singing really compliments the song well. A little tribute to old school.

2. Burnin’ Up(★1/2): Great summer song! Great fade intro with a burning teapot. The vocals were amazing, hitting every note. The pauses between a couple of lines adds for a great climax to an addictive chorus. The amateur rap ruined the vibe of the song. This song reminds me a bit of Maroon 5.

3. Shelf(★1/2): The amazing gutiar intro really lead on to another great song. However, the style of vocals were a little boring. The lyrics have great potential though. Overall, it was dull. The great instrumentals saved the song.

4. One Man Show(★): The song starts off with a up-tempo gutair. It was plain with an on-going chorus, ” I’m a one man show, I don’t need no one…”. There weren’t much depth to the song. Despite that, I think many people can relate to this song if you went through a breakup.

5. Lovebug(★ 1/2): A complete change of pace. The tempo slows down with a Jack Johnson feel and the boys having random conversations. The chorus made a sweet love melodic song. The beat didn’t seem to change at all, and left me bored. However, near the end it broke out into a rock gutair with a faster tempo, which really woke me up.

6. Tonight(★): A fun up-tempo song, that makes you wanna dance. The vocals really were wonderful. However, it seemed like it needed SOMETHING. Not one of their best singles.

7. Can’t Have You(★): A slow creepy 90′s feel. The song starts off with a slow soft vocals, which really builds a climax to the chorus. The lyrics had a lot of depth, and I think a lot of people can relate to this song. I love the echoing vocals. A wonderful song.

8. Video Girl(★): The song begins with an hilarious female talking. This song is catchy, and rhymes really well. I love the rockish vibe. I think this song is a great break up song~

9. Pushin’ Me Away(★): I love this style of singing they sing. A mellower rock song compared to the previous song. The chorus is really catchy “Push, Push”. I love the piano at the end makes for a good closure to the song.

10. Sorry(★1/3): Another change of pace. More slower, and a simpler beat. The beat in the beginning that continues throughout the song gots to go! This song is a good song to listen to if you screwed up a relationship. I feel that the instrumentals don’t compliment the vocals or the lyrical meaning of the song at all. It was just weird. This song has potential to be great. The amazing vocals saved the song, and just makes me wanna cry.

11. Got Me Going Crazy(★): Wooo! Just makes me wanna jump and around clap! The gutair and drum beats and the small random techno beats really made this song good. This song is just wonderful from beginning to end(Even though the lyrics were simple).

12. A Little Bit Longer(★): WOW! Great depth and meaning to the lyrics. I love the piano intro. Everything about this song is perfect. Amazing vocals too.

Overall: 4 1/2 Stars

GO BUY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Don’t download this! Very diverse album!

Leah Dizon Vanilla + Love Paradox + Destiny Line Review

August 14, 2008

please read this entirely and comment!!! My first review~I hope you find this helpful:D

Let me start off with Vanilla!!

3. 悲しみと笑顔の中で/In Sadness and in a Smile (★1/2): I really love this slow song!! I love the rhyming scheme! Leah’s voice was really sweet! I love the chorus, and the part when she says, “When your eyes overflow with tears when your heart is lost your fears don’t let darkness destroy your hope cause you are not alone” This song, for me, is like ‘Missing’ but a year later and more depth.

Overall: 3 1/2 – 4 Stars

LOVE PARADOX! :D

1. Love Paradox (1/2): This song was pretty good, the first song since her first album! Some parts it seemed she was struggled to hit a certain note. Love paradox is sort of a hard song for EVERYONE to relate to, i think. I liked The english parts near the end “Sometimes love just ain’t enough…”. Overall it was alright!

2. Under The Same Sky (★): LOVE it!! I love the entrance and how it sounds as if I am on a beach. Leah talks softly and and enters into an amazing chorus! Really sweet to the ears, and the music video really complimented this song!

Overall: 4 Stars

Leah debut album~Destiny Line!

1. IMPOSSIBLE (★) : I love the funky beat and the intro to the vocals. It’s about a break up and not being in a good relationship “lies and fights”. I can relate to this song and I think a lot of people can. Leah’s vocals were sort of amateur near the end “You took my hand…”. Overall it was enjoyable and I like how she rhymes the chorus “nai, lies, etc” hehe.

2. Everything Anything (★): One the most underestimated songs of the album! The music video did no compliment this song at all, and I wish she could make a new one! The instrumentals (I think violins) and vocals were really good. Even though Leah did not write this song, I like how it uses words she used in another song, “Love Story”. The end really worked up to the final “Love story”!

3. Missing (★): This song was alright, it sort of dragged on repeating the chorus over and over just to make 4 minutes. It would of been better if they just chopped off one of the repeated choruses, because it got pretty boring. I guess Leah wanted to make a surprise at the very end, “You taught me to be strong, You taught…”, those were my favorite words from the entire song. Leah vocals were medicore during the bridge.

4. 恋しよう♪/Let’s Love (★ 1/2): I never get tired of listening to this song! The little twinkle sounds were really nice, and I love the instrumentals. I’m really surprised Leah did not struggle with the fast Japanese chorus, PROPS TO HER! The meaning is wonderful and it’s very danceable (I even attempted to learn the dance)! Leah vocals really shined (except in live performances >.<)! The lyrics were addicting.

5. 運命線/Destiny Line (★): The intro was lovely with chirping birds and and strumming gutair! However, in the entire song the same beat kept repeating which got a little tiring. It was alright.

6. Could you be that one? (★★): Another nice intro with the cool beats and gutairs! The chorus takes turns with English and Japanese which really suited the song. I looked up the romanji just so I could sing the chorus properly! The sweet vocals and beats make it a good listen!

7. Are you feelin’ for me? (★ 1/2): Nice sexy intro with fade in and outs of cool beats and Leah singing, “OOOh~”. Leah did struggle hitting to the high notes. The lyrics really catchy even though they were a bit corny ex: “I would never hurt you, no, no, no”. I loved after 2 choruses they focused on leah’s vocals and she starts singing, “Leap into me, wanna feel your love against me…”

8. Softly(★ 1/2): Sweet soft rhyming entrance. Leah’s soft sweet vocals real match the song-title. However, I can never listen to the song entirely because it gets a little boring! A little TOO slow for me.

9. Time (Clock Of The Heart) (): Yawn!! A random choice of cover song much? The back-up singers singing in a continuing annoying high pitch, “Tiiiiiime, Tiiiiime…” really made me change the song right way. I gave this song a generous 2 stars because I think Leah did the best she could with this song.

10. アイシテル~Love Story(★★): Yippeeee!! After the previous song it was refreshing to hear this pop song with that clapping beat! Even though this song is almost entirely in English it really rhymed well. A bit of American touch with a guy supporting some of the vocals and “Roll with me…Honey,Honey”. Sort of an Western song with a sprinkle of Japanese. Leah did a great job writing this song completely on her own!!

11. Wonderlin(★): This song could of been better if it had a little more…..SOMETHING! It was a bit dull. The instrumentals put me to sleep. I do like Leah’s strong vocal entrance into the chorus.

12. L・O・V・E U(★★): Very cute Japanese-ish song! Even though the chorus seem a bit simple, the are fun and catchy! However, after the amazing successful of Koi Shiyou, this song was a teeny step underneath it. However I love Leah’s pronunciation of the Japanese words.

13. Drive Me Crazy(★ 1/2): Hehe someone loves Britney spears. Techno-ish beats with electric gutair touches. Leah’s vocals struggled AGAIN in the bridges of the song. I had a bit of a hard time underestanding that she was saying “You Drive crazy, get away” instead of “You Drive me crazy, baby”. The chorus saved the song. Despite the vocals, this song was good.

14. Again and Again(★): BEAUTIFUL! I can relate to this song. Another song with very few Japanese words, but sooo much better! I love the sounds of drip drops and the musical arrangement. I love Leah’s voice singing “Ooooo, Ooooo” it gives me chills. A great song.

Overall: 4 Stars
